One of Global Connection’s long-term associates, Ellen Jansma, has been recognised with another award at the annual Expatriate Management and Mobility Awards (EMMAs) for ‘Best Survey or Research Study of the Year’ in the category of ‘Thought Leadership’.
The former Head of International Mobility at Philips (she was also a Global Mobility manager at Heineken), Ellen was on hand to accept the prize in London.
As featured in a Global Connection article from February 2016, Ellen Jansma has been researching the ‘psychological contract’ an expatriate makes with an employer and how it influences performance and satisfaction – and, ultimately, the potential success of an assignment.
For her research she surveyed expatriates at Philips in an attempt to understand the different relationship expats have with the home organisation or headquarters combined with a different inter-dependency and a different need for support. This research focused on both the expat and his/her accompanying family.
The judges said of Ellen’s contribution: “Refreshingly, not another benchmarking survey, this entry is seeking to raise awareness, expose and influence companies. Powerful and very different to ‘benchmarking’ underpinning most research in the GM arena, this survey enters relatively unchartered territory.”
