Many members of our community have discovered the Global Connection directory to be a great way to connect with other expat partners in advance of their relocation, or just after they move.
Who else is around?
You’re about to relocate to another country, perhaps a place where you don’t know anyone. But if you have created a profile on the Global Connection website, you are already part of a global network! So why not see who else is around? The directory is super easy to use. If you click on ‘Argentina’ you will immediately see all the names of the other expat partners who are living there. You can then send an old fashioned email or a text message to say hello (it’s up to the member what contact details they enter).
Dates in the diary
Quite recently an expat partner told us she was delighted to have found some fellow expats in Monterrey, Mexico before she had even arrived in an unfamiliar city. She learned of some upcoming events that she could attend as well as some useful networks that she could join. As one serial expat previously told us: “It’s always a nice feeling to have dates in your diary when you are in a new place.” This means when your partner goes to work, you will also have something marked on your social calendar, something that’s for you (don’t underestimate the importance of this!).
Far flung friends
You can also use the Global Connection directory to connect with others who live in different countries, as perhaps you have something in common with them. For example, if you read a story about an expat partner, who has pursued a path that interests or inspires you, you could drop them a line to find out more. Recently, two Polish partners told us that they got in touch via the directory, just to share experiences of relocation and expat life. One lives in Japan, the other in Germany, but they said that they had much to talk about. After all, no matter where we go in the world, we are all in the same boat!
